About
I'm Terrance McGovern — a hiker first, a photographer close behind.
Most of these photographs were made on foot: long walks through Patagonia, the Nepalese Himalaya, and other far corners of the world, carrying a camera because the light in wild places is too good to leave behind. I'm drawn to the quiet hours — first light on a ridge, the last color draining out of a valley — and to landscapes that make you feel pleasantly small.
The other half of my work happens after dark. From Antarctica, in the months when the sun barely rises, I photograph the night sky — auroras, star trails, and the Milky Way over ice — in some of the darkest, clearest conditions on the planet.
Everything here was shot on real trips, in real weather, usually a long way from a road. If one of these images stays with you, I'd love to hear about it — a small number of prints will be available soon.
